Research presented this week in Chicago during a Scientific Meeting of the American Society for Clinical Oncology where they presented their findings. National Cancer Institute Researcher Dr. Roy Herbst reported on the Effectiveness of Immunotherapy. Immunotherapy, another false hope for way too many it seems like. He said that the Drugs tend to work in only a small percentage of Patients. To quote Dr. Herbst ” I’m Curing People right now with Immunotherapy” he said. But he added ”I’m only successful in 2 out of 10 tries” a Success Rate of only 20% with Immunotherapy according to Dr. Herbst. His goal is to make it work 10 out of 10 times rather than 2 out of 10 like it is right now. What came up during the meeting was that Immunotherapies have worked inconsistently across Cancers and Patients. The 20% it works for, it is a truly is a Miracle, a Gift of Life. For the 80% it doesn’t help with, it’s Devastating News and leaves behind a Trail of Tears, False Hope and Heartache for the Patient and their Families, not to mention the Financial and Emotional Pain that the Patient and their Family have gone through without any relief or worse yet, terrible ”Body Rejection Effects”. A real roller coaster of emotional ups and downs. For those Patients it doesn’t work for, they have subjected themselves to a host of unnecessary Side Effects that is actually your Body Rejecting the Medicine without even helping their Disease, and again, at what cost to you, your $udget and Health? There goes someone’s Inheritance again!!
Last Hope If you have exhausted all other means to get better, and nothing has worked for you, then Immunotherapy could be your last chance to get better, and a no Brainer to try when you have nothing left to lose. I would like to see them get their success rate up a little higher than 20%, rate where it is now, or one in five and of course reduce those ”Body Rejection Effects” that are so well known in Cancer Therapies.
Better Efficiently Now the challenge is to try to see which Patients will respond to the Immune Therapy before treatment, because the biggest challenge right now is to figure out if your one of the 20% it works for, or the 80% it doesn’t. It sure would be nice to know that before you start a treatment that it may not work, and when to discontinue it for something that may actually help you and not just give you ”Body Rejection Effects” at a high cost in money and sickness, just ask anyone who has ever been on Chemo or Radiation before!
Costs? There are two Immunotherapy Drugs that are commonly used together. One is $250,000 and the other one is $250,000. But wait! Have we got a deal for you! Buy both Immunotherapies together, and instead of paying $500,000, it’s yours for the low price of $350,000!! Side Effects, or as we say ”Body Rejection Effects” provided at no additional costs, what a deal we have for you! But wait, there’s more!
So, let me see if I have this correct? You pay as much as $350,000 and endure all of those Nasty Body Rejection Effects for a 20% chance of a Cure? Why do they not tell you that before starting the Treatment Program that you only have a one in five chance of being helped? I never have heard them say anything about that before during one of those expensive TV ads, just a whole lot of smiling people and faces is all I see the most of. I’ve never seen anyone getting Sick in those ads, let alone Vomiting. Just smiling faces everywhere like ”what me worry”! Me worry? It is Cancer after all. However, I have heard them use as much as a third of the ad to explain the ways your Body could Reject the Medicine. That’s why we say ”Body Rejection Effects” instead of Side Effects. Our Side Effects are Beneficial and not to be mistaken for Pharmaceuticals which can have drastic negative effects from taking them.
All too often with Diseases like Cancer, some people will slowly run out of options until they’re left with nothing but Immunotherapy as the last best option for them. This I think is better than Chemo, Radiation, and Surgery and represents a new Treatment Option, but they need to get their success rate up a little higher than 20% and keep costs and Body Rejection Effects kept to a Minimum.
The Future of Immune Therapy
Despite its success rate of only 20%, the future looks very bright for Immune Therapy. Forecasts are for it to become a $321 billion worldwide market by 2027, now that’s a lot of Body Rejection Effects! They have 2,300 drugs in trial, and currently have 120 commercially available Cancer Immunotherapies on the market. This is indeed a huge breakthrough for the 20% it’s successful on, I hope they can improve on that number for the 80% it doesn’t work for, and the ”Body Rejection Effects” they’re so famous for, no extra cost for those!
While a promising field, there is still much more that needs to be accomplished to make it become a standard treatment for all. Particularly with a success rate of only 20%, it still leaves much to be desired. I looked up just two Immunotherapy drugs, and the total sales for those two were over $25 billion. If this is true, then $5 billion was well spent to get people better, and $20 billion was wasted taking what’s left of their depleted funds for a good cause, but unsuccessful attempt to stay alive. Well, there’s $20 billion wasted! And that’s only two drugs. This should be more common knowledge for the Public to know what the Risks and Rewards are and talk to your Doctor about the best course of treatment for you. Keep him or her informed at the first sign of any Ill Effects from your medicine or the first sign of problems.
